The patterns came first.

Studies drawn while we build, the classical constructions the Classics collection opens with. Artists’ own work hangs alongside them.

Twelve-fold Rosette Three overlapping squares build a twelve-pointed star, the classical three-square construction, set in lapis and clay on a sand ground.

Sixfold Star A six-pointed star inside a hexagon, from the hexagonal system, turquoise on a lapis ground.

Octagon and Cross The octagon-and-cross tessellation unit, one tile of a field that could run forever.

Khatam Lattice Four eight-point stars in a repeat, the khatam, the seal, studied as a lattice.

Zellij Chevrons A diagonal band study after the zellij tradition, alternating lapis, turquoise, and clay.

Rotated-square Checker An eight-fold field of rotated squares on lapis, the quiet rhythm of a tiled wall.
